Bruno Berner’s GCZ departure statement

Bruno Berner has made the following statement after his departure from his role of head coach at Grasshopper Club Zurich…

“I am disappointed to leave GCZ, my boyhood club, but I take with me great pride at having had the position.

“It is always a difficult period for a manager or coach when they leave a club, but it is something that happens to us all at some stage of our career.

“Added to my experience and success at SC Kriens, I now have nearly two seasons in the Swiss Super League with Winterthur and GCZ, which a great platform to build on for my next move.

“I have always been open minded about my coaching career, and I would be happy to travel, or to continue my journey in Switzerland. During my playing days, I was in Germany and England, so they are leagues I am familiar with and enjoyed my experiences there.

“For now, I will take some time to reflect on the positives and negatives, and what I can learn from this season, to help me prepare for the next step. I will spend some quality time with my family, and I will look to visit some clubs and watch some games, continuing my own education.

“I would like to finish by thanking my players and staff at GCZ for all their hard work and dedication. I wish them all the best for the future. I would also like to give special mention to my former colleagues, Chairman Matt Jackson and Sporting Director Bernd Haas, who both offered me continued support and structure, enabling me to give my best to the club. Thank you also to the supporters. I will return to being one of you now, and will always look out for the club’s results, and hope that success is ahead.”
