Bruno’s Blog – So Far, So Good

After a pleasing pre-season with SC Kriens, we started the 2017/18 season well, with three wins and one draw from our opening four games.

A very unfortunate 1-0 defeat (the goal coming in the 70th minute) in the League Cup against our neighbours FC Luzern prevented an upset. For a very long time, I couldn’t see a big difference between us and our Super League opponents. Two leagues below FC Luzern, we challenged them in every area of the pitch with a very pro-active performance. I was proud of my boys.

As a manager, I was looking for desire and hunger from my players, to desperately play in the first game of the season. We worked hard on our fitness, involved the ball in every training session, tried different shapes and systems, and also organized team building evenings to strengthen the bond and the mental side of our game.

Within these four games, every fit player in my squad has already enjoyed an appearance, the only exception being our substitute goalkeeper.

That’s a total of 19 players. As a young manager and with the experience of having played at the top level in different countries under different types of manager, I want to make sure that I keep every player at the very top of his game. The challenge is to keep the fitness and spirit up with those players not featuring regularly and players recovering from injury.

Will I be capable of keeping all the players happy? Of course not, but over a season I will need every player. The next game is always the most important one and the focus on picking the right side speaks for itself. But as a manager, I have to think in phases and beyond the next day.

This Saturday, we will play SC Brühl at home. Both sides have won the same amount of points (10) after four games. We look on fire at the moment, so we can’t wait and go out to perform at our best.

Come on SC Kriens.
